New Age 'Hobbit' Influence

Wow, what a title!  Several years ago at the height of my secularized ideal, the thought of writing such a post was beyond my grasp.  Still now, ever since my post about Catholic Kung Fu,..I have been inundated with such requests as to give my opinion about various topics.  Think about today's so-called secularized society,..is it really that secularized or are people desperately hungry for anything spiritual that they will inadvertedly solicit darker powers?  Enter Eckert Tolle,..Just take one look at this funny little man and one can easiliy tell something just isn't quite right.

Case in point, once again at the gym,.(a haven for pluralistic opinion and non sensical verbal diarhea..)  a client of mine found out I was a Catholic.  Yes, not just a catholic but an actual Catholic, a regular guy struggling with his Faith and trying to find the right balance while embracing his call to holiness.  Of course this usually (always) leads to a complete thrashing of the Faith by a so-called sophisticated rationalist (who btw never heard of Aquinas..) or a 'born again' Christian, well meaning but attempting to convert me out of the Faith and refusing to hear any defense of it..(so much for 'acceptance.').  This last instance was a real gem though,..after explaining my position, then why the Church is in the state its in,..I was informed by this woman that she used to be catholic, but didn't want to 'limit' herself.  You see, she's read 'The Secret' and following up on that philosophy she has decided to 'think' herself into positive prosperity.  The 'fun' part is that she suggested I see a psychologist because of my 'unbending' attititude towards Catholicism, which she felt didn't make sense.  To summarize her points, my feeble brain came to the conclusion that she 'felt' Pope Benedict (a scholar btw,..) was wrong but Eckart and his 'popessa' Oprah were right!  (Remember she said I needed a psychologist!)

My friends,..Have we lost our f@#$%ng minds?!?!  To even assume Catholicism is irrational yet adhere to some some new age little hippy who found 'god' within him ( demonic?) preach his eco-centrered crayon crap to the masses is completely nuts!!!!!!!! Catholicism is the last bastion adhering to the Natural Law put forth by Aristotle,..and oh yeah,, by the way, in case you didn't know He is Risen!!!  At the end of the day Eckart Tolle still looks like a hobbit!

St Michael the Archangel,..........ora pro nobis.

Maybe the reason why people are leaving the church is because all the corruption? Or how about all the cases of child molestation? Or having to sit and listen to boring/angry/uninspiring sermons? The church can't hide from all media and people have the right to know what's really going on.
I had to sit through 4 years of masses at my local church where my daughter was doing her catechism classes and thank goodness that's over! That priest was just so angry and uptight and talked non stop about the devil. He was asked to calm down from all the parents and teachers because he was scaring all the kids. Everything bad in the world was the work of the devil, from the cold weather to over weight people. The last mass I attended was my daughters confirmation.
People are craving inspiration and want to believe in a God so they look elsewhere.
It's sad and it's too bad that the church can't see that they are losing followers to a TV talk show host or a simple book.
Oh well
*shrugs shoulders*

Cathy, the same can be said of us as Italians and our relationships with the police. My Nonna used to threated us with calling the police to scare us when we should have been taught to see them in a good light from when we are young. Some priest are angry and uptight, some are awesome, but we can't let our experience override Truth. As far as the child molestation, there were more cases among protestant clergy and school teachers than priests! By that logic, we would have stopped sending our kids to school. The media likes to twist and turn things around,..it sells more newspapers. The link below is interesting,..

ummmm... how do you know my name? Are you phychic?
Calling the police is scare tactic that teaches you consequences. A priest telling you that the devil is everywhere is just stupid. That's just my opinion.
Thankfully, today we can educate our children about sex, molestation, harassment and so on. I'm sure there are less cases reported. Thanks to the media, we know what's going on our neighborhoods, schools, and churches. Years ago all this was a taboo subject. Just curious though... does the church encouage sex education?

Really?,..I wish someone had taught it to me when I was in high school,..perhaps I wouldn't have been as 'wild' ;) You are the first person to ever call it bullshit,..Sent you an email sample presented by Christopher West,..

I'm sorry. ok, so maybe bullshit is harsh. The video is lovely. I just don't agree with all of the "Theology of the Body" teachings.

Theology of the Body is a wonderful teaching on sexuality. Part of the reason the Church is having so much trouble with people leaving it is due to the secularism, laziness of people, and lack of knowledge of the precepts of our Faith. I can't believe Cathy actually heard a number of sermons on the devil. Many would crave for just one on the devil once in awhile. I usually get a sermon on love, love, love.

Prayers and God Bless, Marco.

The deeper message in The Secret is believing in yourself, remaining positive and persistent in achieving what you want from life; this is a great attitude toward life, but it far from a religion. What this book lacks in comparison to the Bible for instance, is what happens when things still go wrong? The Secret has no plan B other than keep hoping more. The Catholic religion, in addition to Faith, also teaches us about such things as acceptance, courage, strength; values that will carry us during difficult times.
